Eelia is well, and has been evacuated (possibly twice?)... she asks that no one call her cell as it's low on batteries

Laura Breukner (sp?) emailed Cat also & is fine... though evacuated from her place.

2:25 pm - OK, yes, alright... I'm back on Lj
|
Mostly because Tribe flutters just a little too much to be perfectly dependable... and also cause there are just some friends who hang out here who haven't come to join the rest of us on Tribe yet... you know who you are.
So, what's new? All sorts of stuff! I moved to Berkeley in July, the band is on haiatus until the new year, I'm working Dickens Fair for the first time in years, and I have a new Primary partner. That's a LOT of stuff (trust me). I haven't been getting out much (you can probably figure out why) and I've lost touch with a few of you... which I'm working to rectify. It will take me some time to get caught up with peoples' journals, and I'll probably only get to the most recent stuff. Hope all is well!

1:53 pm - Wow - we got a great CD review in the UK!!!
|
We just got word that the "Sex Toy" CD got a rave review in the UK! Here's a link to it: http://www.whisperinandhollerin.com/reviews/review.asp?id=4908
And if that isn't cool enough for one day... as of this afternoon, Hooman at Radio Alice (97.3 fm) has a copy in his hands for review... he says if he likes it, he'll play it!
If you've seen any other reviews out there on Cuir Bleu, or know of anyone who would like to write one, please let me know!

11:07 am - Pics From Pride Parade!
|

The Pride Parade was AWESOME fun! I've posted some pics that Duane took, on the Cuir Bleu Tribe: tribes.tribe.net/cuirbleu/photos - check 'em out! There are some great shots there... and more to come later from my camera & the videos, too!
What a huge undertaking! I'm still reeling a bit, between the early mornings, late nights, singing, dancing & general mayhem. Makana and Banasidhe, (with help from Master Erik & Ted) did the build-out all day Saturday & into the wee hours, slept with the float to guard it, then were up with the sun to finish getting it ready! We did the hurry-up-and-wait thing for about 3 hours, then launched onto Market Street around 12:45. It took around 40 minutes to do the route, with the band playing, dancers following and shakin' it, whips snapping, pony carts - oh, the pony carts were so cool! We had three of them, and I don't have any pics yet, but they looked great! There were lots of folks who joined us to walk, dance or volunteered as wheel monitors.
KRON4 was broadcasting & I hear they taped the entire event this year; there were other cameras there as well & I think an internet broadcast was done. If you have pics or video of our contingent at the parade, please let me know!

9:39 am - Get Your Pride On! Last Volunteer Call - come join us!
|
THE SF LGBT PRIDE PARADE IS THIS SUNDAY!!!
Come join the SF Citadel and Cuir Bleu as we help to lead off the Leather Contingent for the San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade on Sunday June 24th! We'll have a cool float, walkers, dancers, whip-snappers, Pony carts... great music and lots and lots of fun!
AND - Volunteers who work on the float, in the booth or as monitors will get into the Citadel's Post Pride Party FREE!
The Citadel is about EVERYONE getting to be who they are and express themselves in a fun, loving, supportive and kinky environment - regardless of gender, sexual orientation or any other qualifiers. We plan to be a real presence in the parade this year and have fun being ourselves!
Please contact: Dusty at sfcitadelvolunteers@gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer.
- - - - - - - - PERTINENT INFO - - - - - - - - OK, if you're joining us at the Parade this Sunday - or even just watching it - here's some useful info...
PLACEMENT: The Leather Contingent is in the second third of the parade, Contingent number 119 K. The Citadel float (with Cuir Bleu on it!) has the honor of holding the 2nd spot in the leather contingent, following the Society of Janus! Approximately one million people are expected to show up for the parade this year...
MEETING UP: Our assembly area is K, and we are on the right side of Beale, between Mission and Howard Streets. Our assembly area entrance is Howard and Beale. Assembly time is 9:30 AM. Between 9:30 and 10:30 AM, the vehicles, clubs and organizations, marchers, etc. will be set up in parade line-up order, ready to step off shortly after 10:30 AM. (Note - if you're watching the parade, I don't think you'll see us til after 11:30 or so).
VOLUNTEERS: We still need wheel monitors! This is a VERY important post and we don't have enough yet! There is only ONE training left that I know of, this Friday 7pm-8pm at Larkin Hall, Polk & Grove Streets, San Francisco, which you'll need to be at to qualify - please come join us!
PHOTO & VIDEO: We would like to have as much photo & video coverage as possible, and hope to use some of it in a future music video for Cuir Bleu! Please let me know if you will be shooting the parade so I can make arrangements to get files from you!
TEAR-DOWN: We'd love to have help after the parade (around 2:30-ish on Sunday). You can do set-up and/or tear-down & still walk with the contingent if you want to!
WALKERS: come and join us at the assembly point on Sunday morning if you want to walk, dance or skate in the parade with us! No need to contact Dusty for this - just show up!
And if I haven't mentioned it enough yet - If you want to volunteer, please contact Dusty at sfcitadelvolunteers@gmail.com and let her know how you'd like to help!
JOIN THE PARTY - Cuir Bleu is playing at the Citadel's Post Pride Party Sunday evening! Doors open at 5:00 til 10:00, with band sets at 6:30pm & 8:00pm. The cover is only $5 - this is a "social", not a Play party... come chill with us after Pride!
Thanks! I'll see everyone there - with leather on!

10:48 am - Way too long
|
OK, so it's been... five months. Yes, it has. I couldn't possibly recap everything here, but for anyone who has a Tribe account, that's where I've been. Meanwhile, the coolest news is that Cuir Bleu's second CD (this one full-length), called "Sex Toy" has just been pressed! It's awesome and we're really really excited about it! Our distributor, Cd baby, has a page set up for us at: www.cdBaby.com/cuirbleu3 and I've made all sorts of updates to the website at www.cuirbleu.com.
We've got four shows coming up - May 12th "Sex Toy Saturday" CD pre-release at the Citadel, June 24th SF LGBT Pride (on the Citadel's float in the Leather Contingent), June 24th Post-Pride Party at Citadel, and July 12th CD Release & VIP Party at the Supperclub SF! We're also waiting to hear from Sterling James about doing a Live 92.7 party on June 23rd in association with Pride Week. So I've been just a little busy... and I'm glad to be back!

9:59 am - Day 13 - Playing with Myself
|
|

No - today's topic, despite the title, is not what you think. Honestly... even *I* take my mind off of sex SOMETIMES. Well, ok admittedly not often... but I'll leave that for a different post. This morning's thing I really enjoy about myself is...
I have fun with my image!
It's a small one in the greater scheme of things perhaps... yet no less important (or true) for all that. I don't take myself too seriously.... I'm willing to wear odd stuff, dye my hair fun colors, get up on a stage or work a Fair/e in funny clothes... and it's all a part of expressing who I am. And I love it - it makes me FEEL GOOD!
What part of YOURself do you have fun with?

4:25 pm - Day 12 - TWELVE!
|
OK, today's thought is: I am generous.
I give of myself, my stuff, my energy, my money and my time to help make the world a better place. It's interesting... I left my gloves on BART this morning. It was very cold, but the train was warm so I had taken them off and put them on my lap while I read. When my stop came, I got up, grabbed my bag and my book, and left the train. It wasn't til I was going up the stairs and out into the crisp air that I realized I'd left them behind. Warm, lined leather gloves. Gloves that I'm hoping someone who really needed them, found, and kept warm with. Sometimes, the Universe asks for a donation. It warmed me to know that I'm contributing. And remember that thing about Abundance vs. Scarcity? I have a good life, and can afford to buy myself a new pair - and that feels really good too!

3:48 pm - Day 10 - one third there!
|
What I like about myself today is...
I come from a place of ABUNDANCE !
I believe there is an infinite supply of Love and Happiness and Strength and Power... of Sex and Good Feelings and Friends and Recognition... and the more each of us has, the more we add to the whole. I don't need to hoard my Generosity, be stingy with my Praise, hold back my Love, in order to hold onto them and have enough... Giving and Sharing puts more out there in the world... and more can come back to me. It's not about "enough"... it's about "abundance"!

My self-affirmation (or self-appreciation thought) for Day 7 is:
I am... creative!
I can Flow with situations, dive into Change, learn new tricks... I can also be creative with solutions... transit, home stuff, business, band...
Did I say Transit? Yes, I did. This morning was about creative transit solutions. And while I can't say I conquored them or executed them perfectly... much was learned, and I have a new alternate route in getting from the East Bay to the City. Very good to know!
Creative with the band... and marketing... so as a seguey...
Come and join us tonight in Oakland! The band is doing a show for Kalib's birthday, and tranny-rockers Lipstick Conspiracy are joining us at Club Anton, near Jack London Square. It's a really cool place & they're really just getting started - so I'd love to be able to get alot of folks in the door! They also just put in a brand new dance floor (yesterday!) and they serve tapas & great Peruvian food as well as having a full bar. The cover charge is low ($5-$7) and we go on at 9:30. Come and dance!

11:20 am - We're Playing in Oakland Nov 15th!
|
We've been working on playing a gig with Lipstick Conspiracy - and it's finally going to happen! And just in time for Kalib's BIG birthday, too! We're in the middle of moving craziness, re-designing the studio, finishing production on the new album... and we're taking the time off to have some serious fun, so I hope you can join us!
If you haven't seen them yet, Lipstick Conspiracy is a great local chick-rock band... with a bit of a twist. They're extremely tight musically, high energy and hard-rocking. We've shared the stage with them at SF Pride and I'm really excited about having them join us in the East Bay. Club Anton is a beautiful space near Jack London Square that has the added bonus of a Peruvian restaurant attached - Tapas at the bar!
Oh yeah - and our friend Captain Man will be joining us on guitar for a few of the songs! With his help, we'll be re-working "Darkside", a song that's alot of people's favorite and has been off our playlist for the past few years. See you there...
Here's all the Official Info:

1:22 pm - Because the Bay Area Needs More Midwives...
|
|
On October 22nd, my band will perform at a special fundraiser in Berkeley titled "Assistance, Support and Encouragement". This is a private event to raise funds for my friend Kaye, a Bay Area Doula, educator and women's health activist who is pursuing her life dream of becoming a Certified Midwife. Kaye has been accepted into a wonderful training and certification program, and the tuition is steep... hence the event.

I've known Kaye for years, and I'm so supportive of her for choosing this path. She's already helped so many women through the birth process and beyond, and I think it's an incredible journey she's on. So when she told me about the fundraiser that's being held for her in October, I offered the band for entertainment, as our contribution. What's even cooler is that my Mom, Zia will be visiting from Colorado - and has agreed to sing back-up with us for this performance! Being an event in support of Moms... and that my Mom taught me to sing so long ago... it just seems perfect!
For more information you can email me at pixie(at)cuirbleu(dot)com. Tickets can be purchased in advance through http://www.arnolddfeener.com/kayedonation/ through the date of the event and will be available at the door (cash only).
If you would like to donate time instead of money, I have a LIMITED number of crew and photo/video slots available - so let me know ASAP! Also - this is an All Ages event! There will be dessert, appetizers and drinks, stories and live entertainment, a silent auction and more...

2:42 pm - In Honor of banned Books Week...
|
OK, I took this from artemis_rich and I'll keep part of her explanation cause I think it's a good one...
This has been going around LJ and lots of people have done it. I'm going to as well with the caveat that even without doing any research I can tell you that this list is by no way inclusive. For example: there is no Henry Miller or William Burroughs, two authors that I have read extensively and who have both been banned. Other banned books that spring to mind are E.R. Burroughs "Tarzan" and "The Great Gatsby" is another.
Also Nancy Friday's "Women on Top" (a stroke book couched in pop psychology) is listed twice.
*** As an update: check out this site for a more comprehensive list! http://www.banned-books.com/bblist.html ***
Bold the ones you have read, and suggest another one to read.
1. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling 2. "The Chocolate War" by Robert Cormier 3. Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor 4. "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck 5. "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou 6. "Fallen Angels" by Walter Dean Myers 7. "It's Perfectly Normal" by Robie Harris 8. Scary Stories series by Alvin Schwartz 9. Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey 10. "Forever" by Judy Blume 11. “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger
Proud to say I can count over 50 banned books that I've read! Some of these really amaze me, too... "Sylvester and the magic Pebble"? It was one of my favorites as a child! And "In The Night Kitchen", too. Who ARE these people?
As for recommending one that's not on the list... hm. I didn't see "Free To Be You And Me" which probably made the list at some point, given what *IS* there. "Kushiel's Dart" MUST be banned, if "Story of O" was... and it's so much better written!

1:42 pm - FSF and Other Kinky Holidays!
|
Last night's show at Bondage A Go Go was a blast! That's quite a sound system they've got going on, and what can I say? I love seeing an audience full of Fetishwear - it's my favorite kind! Leather, Latex, Pasties and Rope... This band thing just gets better and better!
Meanwhile, Leather Week is just getting going, and the Folsom Street Fair draws closer every day. This is no time to sit back on our laurels... it's time to hit the stage once again and party with the freaks. So I hope some of you freaks are going to come join me! We can all sleep later...
On Saturday night, we'll be playing at the SF Citadel's Folsom Eve Party.
Kalib, Makana and I plan to stick around after the performance to enjoy an evening at The Citadel - and will be out and about throughout the Faire and after on Sunday too, no doubt! So much to see and do - by the end of it, we'll definitely need to kick back and soak in the loving atmosphere that August, Phil and the others always provide!
Folsom Street Fair and Leather Week are upon us - I love kinky holidays!
